Are flying cars real? Drone Taxis Being Trialled

Flying cars, which have excited us with their dreams in cartoons, movies and in the world of science fiction for many years, and which we have always been deeply excited about the possibility of being real, may soon become real.

Although it is not exactly suitable for the name of our dreams, the first unmanned flights with the name ‘Drone taxi’ were tried in Seoul, South Korea.

South Korean engineers are working on a next-generation transport service that eliminates 30 to 50 kilometers of urban traffic jams, using electrically powered aircraft capable of vertical take-off and landing in metropolitan areas.

The flying taxi, called eHang 216, developed by China-based company Ehang, can reach speeds of 130 kilometers per hour, as well as 4G and 5G connections.

With a carrying capacity of 220 pounds, the eHang 216 is fully electrically powered and does not need any pilots as it is autonomous-capable.

‘Drone taxis’, which were trialled in collaboration with the South Korean Ministry of Transport and Seoul Municipality, conducted trial flights over the Han River

6 drone taxi made its flight in the youido area without taking people in yet. Drone taxis carrying packages and cargo expect to be ready by 2025 with Vertical Takeoff and landing in South Korean traffic.

Drone taxis intended to be used at distances of 30 to 50 kilometres are expected to curb city traffic congestion.
